Peritoneal graft in extremely retracted conjunctival sac.

چکیده

VARIOUS mucosal and skin materials have been used in plastic operations on the conjunctiva, and the mucosa of the mouth and lips have been found most suitable. Apart from these materials, the Thiersch graft, part of the peritoneal membrane, the rectum, the preputium, and the labia minora have also been used for small conjunctival defects. Sorsby and Symons (1946) found amniotic membrane suitable in the reconstruction of large defects. Allen (1953) used autografts from the abdominal peritoneum. Malhotra (1957) recommended peritoneum, taken from inguinal hernias, as a routine procedure in entropion surgery. Erbakan (1958) successfully used a peritoneal graft taken from an inguinal hernia, in the case of a large naevus showing signs of malignancy, which was situated in the lower fornix and partly involved the bulbar conjunctiva. In the following three cases a peritoneal graft was used to enlarge the retracted conjunctival sac into which a prosthesis could not be inserted.

Plastic repair of conjunctiva with peritoneum transplantation.

THE repair of conjunctival defects has always been a difficult problem. From time to time various tissues, such as Thier'sch's graft, mucous membrane from the oral cavity (lower lip and cheeks), inferior turbinates of the nose, amniotic membrane, and even skin from the prepuce and labia minora have been utilized. Mucous membrane from the oral cavity is most commonly used for grafting into the c...

The effect of Ophthalmic Patch on Conjunctiva of Neonates under Phototherapy

Objective Conjunctivitis is a common disease in neonates. Several bacterial and viral infectious agents may cause it. Tear circulation and blinking has protective effects from bacterial colonization in the conjuntival sac. Reduced blinking increases the possibility of bacterial conjunctivitis. We studied the effect of eye patches on bacterial colonization of the conjunctival sac.  Methods In 1...

Skin-graft in a Case of Total Symblepharon.

MANAGEMENT of conjunctival ulceration in the acute stages following chemical injuries and certain infectious diseases is one of the most difficult problems confronting ophthalmic surgeons. This is challenging, more so when the internal structures of the eye-ball are not affected. The cornea may be fairly normal in many such cases. Severe damage to the conjunctiva, unless properly treated, will ...

A simple method of inserting amniotic membrane grafts into the conjunctival sac.

THE treatment of chemical burns of the conjunctiva with amniotic membrane is now widely used. A simple and quick method of insertion saves a patient with an already acutely tender eye much discomfort. An amniotic membrane graft is required to separate two raw surfaces of conjunctiva and prevent the formation of symblepharon. A method is, therefore, needed to hold the graft well into the affecte...
